Ok where did Jan. go? I can't beleive it's Feb. already. I hope this year doesn't fly by like last year.

I've been busy making a few things with Creative Kuts files first I have a layout using Eggs-tra Special
I wanted to make something for my Grandson who is always asking how many days until whatever is coming up so I made him this Valentine count down using Kisses $1
I don't know about you but I'm always ready for a little sunshine so I made this layout one day when the weather was more like winter then summer. Getting ready for this years vaction. I'm so ready to go to the beach and get some sun!!!! This file is called Beach Bums

I didn't quite get my layout for today finished. My son and his family ended up coming today to celebrate Christmas. This was the first chance they've had to come spend time with us so I was busy cooking most of the day. It was great having them but it sure put a crimp in my crafting today. LOL

I used DCWV Winter Mat Stack for this layout.the blue ribbon is paper I folded to look like ribbon,the white scalloped edge is a Martha Stewart Punch,the snow flake is from Cricuts Christmas Cheer cartridge and the Bling Swirl is from Prima. I hope to add a title and finish the layout tomorrow after the kids leave.

Swedish Cream Wafers

Swedish Cream Waffers

I know I've shared these before but these are my all time favorite cookies. I don't think I am the only one in my house either....they are gone before I can even get them frosted! They are a must in our house over the Holidays.

Swedish Cream Wafers
makes: 5 dozen

1 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
granulated sugar
Combine the butter and whipping cream.
Add the flour.
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375F.
On a floured board, roll out 1/3 of the dough at a time to 1/8 inch thick.
Cut with 1-1/2 inch round cookie cutter.
Place lots of granulated sugar in a shallow bowl.
Coat cookies with the sugar on both sides.
Place rounds on ungreased baking sheets.
Prick each round with a fork about 4 times.
Bake 7 to 9 minutes.
Let cookies cool.

filling
1/4 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 egg yolk, optional
1 teaspoon vanilla
food coloring, optional Make the filling by beating 1/4 cup butter, powdered sugar, egg yolk and vanilla together.
Tint with food coloring, if desired. I use red and green for Christmas and add peppermint instead of vanilla

When cookies have cooled make sandwiches by placing some filling between two cookies. WARNING THESE COOKIES ARE ADDICTING!!!! :) I hope you and your family enjoy them as much as we do.

This is the first time I've tried making a Stair Step Card. I hope you enjoy it! This card was so much fun to put together with these super cute Fall Files from Creative Kuts. Here's a link to all the files from Creative Kuts I used HANGIN IN THE PATCH, HARVEST MEMORIES LITTLE BOYand the Cat from HALLOWEEN THEME

This card is a lot easier then it looks. Want to know how to make one for your self? Here's step by step instructions on how. Give it a try....you'll be amazed at how simple it really is.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

One 5 1/2" x 10 1/2" piece of card stock for card base
Scor-Pal™ or other scoring tool
Adhesive
Paper Piecing Files you want to use
Ink and chalk

Additional card stock, patterned paper and embellishments for decoration

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1
Line card stock up length wise on Scor-Pal and score at 2 1/2", 4 1/4" and 6".

Step 2
Align the left edge of the card stock at 3" score groove of the Scor-Pal and score at 4 1/4".
Slide your 6" score line on your card stock to the 2" score groove of your Scor-Pal™ and score again at 4 1/4"

Step 3
Prefold all score lines.
Fold the card stock mountain/valley style (up and down) to create the card base.

Step 4
Start decorating the stair steps with paper pieces or what ever you choose.

Step 5
Post a picture of your card if you decide to make one. We'd all love to see it!!!!

SECOND PROJECT
Now you want to talk about fun. I had so much fun with this project. I started out with just the first two cars but once I got started I couldn't stop. I has to have the whole train to run across the top of our entertainment center.....THE TRAIN is OVER 5" LONG. This has to be one of the cutes files I have ever worked with. No time to craft

How was your Halloween? I went to Pismo Beach to spend Halloween with part of my grandkids. My oldest grandson turned 18 so on Sunday we took him to the Casino. He walked out with about 75 cents left to his name. He said he had a good time even though he lost. LOL

Here is a couple of pictures of my Son's house. He love's to decorate for the Holidays. I can't wait to see what he does for Christmas. He made the spider...it has smoke that comes out of his nostril's and the eyes light up and move side to side.

I got to go to my 7 year old grandson's school for their Fall Party. It was Crazy Hair Day all the kids looked so cute. Here's a picture of Tyler's crazy hair.

Halloween night we took the kids to the Church for their annual Sock Hop. The kids had a blast playing all the games and getting their faces painted. Both of the boys won at the cake walk so we had plenty of cupcakes. Someone had made banana nut with chocolate frosting they were so good. Here they are dressed in their costumes.

I had a great time with the kids. I even got to spend an extra two days there waiting for truck parts to come in. My truck broke down and I had to replace the catalytic converters. Why does a truck have to have two.....so it can cost double is the only thing I can think of. LOL!!!!

I made it home in time to get ready for the weekend. We have a group of 7 girls at the Retreat this weekend. They are excited that we have snow. It snowed off and on yesterday and we woke to about an inch of snow this morning covering the ground. As for me I'll be glad when it's melted. LOL As you can see I've had no time to get any crafting done. I'm off to make cookies for the girls. Hope you have a great weekend!!!!

The wedding turned out beautifully. They couldn't have asked for nicer weather. I believe it's one of the only times I've been at Avila Beach when the wind hasn't come up in the afternoon. Here are a couple of my favorite pictures so far. I haven't had a chance to really look at them all yet. We got home late last night and we're going back again tomorrow for the parties. I needed at least one night in my own bed LOL.

I've been so busy I haven't had as much time as I'd hope to work on Halloween decorations but I did see these adorable little Frankenstein Snacks on someones blog. I did get a few minutes to do this page. I used Prince-of-Darkness by Creative Kuts. I'm trying to get caught up on last years Halloween pictures before I start taking this years LOL If only I could get caught up!

I have a lot to do this week. My Son is getting married a week from tomorrow and I still don't have anything to wear YIKES!!! I can't believe I've waited this long to go shopping. Halloween Decorations

I've been busy making Halloween Decorations or I should say trying. One was a complete falure. I was trying to use something I'd never worked with before and it didn't hold the paint. Oppps! I did get this Welcome sign done and I'm almost done with a wreath. I will tell you more about it when I have it finished....so far it's turning out soooooo cute. Anyone else working on Halloween decorations? I'd love to hear about them.

A Day at the Park

I got to spend the day with my two youngest grandsons yesterday at the park. We got a surprise visit from my oldest grandson. It was nice to get to visit with him just the two of us while the boys played. He is thinking of go in the service : ( I sure don't like that he grew up so darn fast.

from there we went to the Frazier Park Museum. The boys loved seeing the animals,learning about the Indians that lived in this area,grinding corn, and going in the log cabin....they didn't think the bed looked comfortable or living with a dirt floor would be much fun. So much for being a pioneer LOL! I forgot to charge my battery for my camera so it died at the park so we got no pictures at the museum : (

Surprise Party

Thanks to all of you who came and made the day extra Special for Mark.

This week I got to keep three of my grand kids : ) so we've been busy cooking, baking,playing cards and of course doing some paper piecing. My grandson Tyler has been busy making some of my new files from Creative Kuts and KaDoodle Bug.

Today we're making Biscut and Gravy (don't you wish you where here Jess?),homemade Pizza and Tyler and I will be working on the 50's Rock & Roll file form Creative Kuts. I am so in Love with this file. Go over and check out their files WARNING it could be very HAZARDOUS to your WALLET LOL

Pollen take over

The pollen is taking over here. I can wipe down the counter and turn around and it's yellow again. I washed the table last night after dinner got up this morning and it was covered in yellow dust. The red truck now has a nice yellow glow to it. I'll tell you what I will be so glad when all our pine trees are done!

Even with the pollen take over I've been busy making some new layouts so I thought I would share them with you. Had to blow the yellow dust off first LOL

Aren't these skunks to stinking cute? My family is going camping in August so I couldn't resist making this.....now I just have to take the pictures LMBO. They were a give away from KaDoodle Bug Design. If you missed them she now has them for sale on her site. Let her know I sent you over. Watch out your going to fall in love with her stuff!

My grandson's love to ride so when I saw this I had to make it. This file is from Treasure Box Designs. I just changed the title from Mud to Dirt. Can't wait to add the pictures.

Wait until you see what I'm working on now........it's to cute. Here's a hint: You all know my DH is turning 50 in a few days and I'm making it in his honor. Can any one guess? We've been very busy around here with retreats,weed abatement and our grandson graduated from high school last week. Here is a picture of my son and grandson.

It's finally starting to feel like summer here. It's been in the mid to high 70's all this week. I've been enjoying the nice weather until I went to the gym this morning and someone said it's suppose to cool off again. Ok that's not so bad I can handle cooler weather however they said that we have had snow here in July....now that is more than I can handle I would really have to move back to the coast then LOL!

With the yard all cleared you can really see all the wild life. We've had the cutest baby bunnies out running all over and playing. They are so cute chasing each other. I also saw a couple of baby blue jays on the deck yesterday. We also have a couple of dove that come by everyday and sit on the rail and look in the window they are to funny.

If you don't have any plans for 4th of July weekend we still have room for you to come so come spend a fun 4 day weekend cropping and be back in plenty of time for the 4th festivities. If your interested shoot me an e-mail we'd love to see you.

Spring Cleaning

I've been busy trying to organize my craft area and while I was looking for some help I found this and I thought I would post this list I found on Just A Scrappin'

Organizing Your Craft Room - Here are some tips to organize your space

1. Separate your work area

If you do not have separate room for hobby/crafts then try to partition off an area of the room with a screen or by arranging bookshelves or furniture in such a manner that it creates a physical separation to the room. This will help restrict THE MESS (as others commonly call our craft addiction) to one area.

2. Think about storage

Have a place for everything and everything in its place. This will make your work time much more fun and efficient.

Get yourself some cardboard file boxes or the more expensive see-through plastic Rubbermaid boxes and organize your embellishments, fabric, ribbon, flowers, etc. Group things with common themes.

3. Easy Access to Tools

Have your scissors, glue gun, sewing machine, etc all close at hand. Make holders for your markers, your glue gun and your scissors. Get in the habit of always replacing these valuable tools BACK where they came from. This will save valuable time and reduce your stress level.

4. Lighting

Don't forget to spend some time and give thought to proper lighting. It is essential to your health as well as your mental attitude.

5. Worktable

Purchase an old table from the second hand store and it will be well used and you won't have to worry if that paint or glue that spilled will come off. If you do spend a lot of time crafting, an investment in a higher table will result in fewer backaches. You can raise the height of a display table if you cut four pieces of PVC pipe. A display table is the kind that you can buy at your local home renovation store. Their legs fold up and lie flat on the underside of the table. The length of the pipe depends on the distance you will need to raise the table to the right height for you. Fit the table leg into the PVC and tape on.

6. Music

Place your sound system within easy reach. Select your own music, don't just get in the habit of listening to the local station. If you choose your own music you can set the tempo and really increase you output. Try it and see if it works! Take advantage of all the information now available on CD. There are many motivational books and seminars. Learn while you work. (My personal favorite is right on my laptop - Pandora.com.)

7. Use your walls for storage

Get things up off the floor and off the counter tops. Invest in some shelving units or place pegboard on your walls.

8. Be realistic

Do you have craft supplies from BC (Before Christ)? Perhaps it would be a good idea to do a thorough cleaning and donate your old and unused craft supplies to a day-care, retirement center or community arts council.

9. Put it back!

My mom taught me this one, and it's so important it's mentioned twice! Now that you’re organized, once you're finished with it – put it back.

10. Tidy up

Spend 10 to 15 minutes at the end of EVERY day cleaning up. Set a stopwatch if you have to. Leaving your workroom clean and organized for the next day will make your more motivated to start.

Now you have some tips, here's the bad news. It is impossible to simply rearrange one area of your craft room. You must organize everything. Just as you go about clearing one area you will need to have a place to put things. Before you clean one mess it will take making a bigger mess. But it will be worth it. Remember to break down the job into smaller parts. "The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time." Good Luck!

Snowing Again

Can you believe it! We got 3" of snow last night. The weather has sure been crazy around here.One day we are in the high 70's and the next it's snowing. Come on Mother Nature what gives? I can't take much more of this. Are you having hot flashes one minute it's cold and the next it's hot. Poor Mother Nature I think you may need some hormone therapy LOL! Anyhooo this is what it looked like this morning. Thank goodness it is all melted now!

With Mother's Day and National Scrapbooking Day the same weekend I kind of skipped over Cinco De Mayo. Look at these Margarita Cupcakes I made the girls for dessert on Cinco De Mayo to go along with Mark's Enchilada's YUMMMMM. I have to say this was one jam packed weekend with Cinco De Mayo, National Scrapbook Day and Mother's Day all in one weekend!

Mediterranean Chickpea Salad with Lemon Dressing

I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day and a great time on National Scrapbook Day. We had a lot fun both at the retreat and on our fan page. There where giveaways,contest and prizes!

As many of you know I am always looking for new recipes. I tried this one this past weekend and the girls loved and wanted the recipe so I thought I would share it with you too.

Mediterranean Chickpea Salad with Lemon Dressing
Serves 6

INGREDIENTS
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
2 Cups cherry tomatoes,halved
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 (15 1/2 oz) can chickpeas,rinsed and drained
1 garlic clove,minced
1 (7 oz) jar roasred red peppers,
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
drained and thinely sliced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 (6 1/2 oz) jar artichoke hearts,
1/4 teaspoon pepper
drained and queartedred
1 small head romaine lettuce,
tron into bite size pieces (6 cups)
1/2 Cup crumbled feta

6 pitted kalamata olives, coarsely chopped
1 medium English cucumber,peeled and diced

DIRECTIONS:

1. Whisk the lemon juice,oil,garlic,oregano,salt,and pepper together in small bowl.
2. Arrange the lettuce on a large platter; top with the diced cucumber,tomatoes,chickpeas,peppers,and artichoke hearts.

Drizzle with the dressing and sprinkle with the cheese and olives. Server at once, or cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days. I hope you enjoy this....let me know if you try it. I'd love to how you like it.

Spring has finally hit Frazier Park

Well it's finally starting to feel like Spring around here. The weather is warming up during the day, however it's still chilly at night. The buds are popping out on the Lilac trees. In fact the Lilac Festival is in a couple of weeks. Mark wants to go every year maybe we will actually make it this year!

I'm not sure what happened to the Poppies this year but we didn't have any in our yard and there where very few a long the 5. We didn't get a chance to go out to the Poppy Reserve this year. I'm really disappointed I didn't get any pictures. I love taking pictures of them especially when they cover the whole hillside.

Some of you are already having 80 and 90 degree weather so if you need a break from the heat you should come up. We have some great specials going! We have had some many animals this year I thought I would post a picture of the dove. They have been coming up and sitting on the rail of the deck. This is the first year I've seen so many......usually we are lucky to see one or two all Spring and Summer. Not this year I've been seeing them daily and they are even coming right up to the house.

I'm still waiting to see the baby quail. Last year we had two covey of about 18 each. They are so cute waddling across the yard.....and they grow so darn fast. If you don't see them for a few days they are almost all grown. I hope I get to see at least one covey of babies this year!

It's been a very busy day today. Fixed brunch,got the girls off,made DH cookies for his lunch tomorrow (he is starting at a new store),found some of the Easter recipes I wanted,finished a couple of projects around the house and I just put dinner in the oven and decided to sit down and start this post.

I brought my scrapbook supplies into the living room so I can work on some projects after Mark goes to bed. I've got some more Easter die cuts I want to get made and I need to finish up my Easter cards so I can get them in the mail tomorrow.

Here is a layout of my grandson. He was excited about turning 7....he is growing up way to fast! It seems like just yesterday he was learning to walk.

Here are a couple of easy craft projects for the kids to make with egg cartons aren't they adorable?

We are leaving on Friday to see the grandkids for Easter so I've been busy making Easter layouts. I thought this year I would get a little a head of the game and have some of my layouts done before I take a million and one pictures over Easter weekend.

My grandson is waiting to color eggs until I get there so I made this layout. I can't wait to get his picture to put on it. I also have some Easter charms and flowers I want to add after I have the pictures

This week I'm also going to be busy making Easter Candy. I'm going to paint some chocolate and make these adorable little chicks and peeps

Easter Eggs

Do you remember these adorable Easter Eggs?

I thought I would make them again this year.
Here's what you need to make them
1 dozen eggs
Food coloring
Sharp Knife

Directions
Hard boil your eggs and peel. Place in food colors of your choice. Leave until they are the desired color you want. Let dry then cut jagged edge with sharp knife and fill with your favorite deviled egg recipe.

We took a mini-vacation and got out of the snow for the past 4 days. It was so nice to be in warm weather....short sleeves and flip-flops :-)

I got to have lunch with girl friends I haven't seen in awhile. It was a great time. Now it's back to the Retreat and back to work!

There was no snow when we got back yesterday....in fact the weather is beautiful today. It's still a little brisk out but the sun is shinning and the sky is a beautiful shade of blue.

Easter Layouts

Here are a couple of the layouts I made for Easter. Sorry the pictures aren't better. I still haven't figured out a good way to take pictures of layouts. Anyone have any suggestions?

It's snowing again today. Right now it is coming down pretty good here is a picture of just before I started to write this and here is one about 5 minutes later. It sure didn't take long for it to turn white! One thing about this cold weather I love to stay inside and bake. I'm off to make some cookies and banana nut bread. Have a great day!

Do you know what this is? Yes it is the Yudu and Michael's has it on sale for $99.99 today! That's a great price if you've been wanting to get one of these this would be a great time.

I've heard mixed reviews on them. Some people say the are really difficult to use and others just love them. Here is their website Yudu just in case you want more information.

If you have one or get one let me know how you like it I'm still trying to decide if I need one. I've heard to many negative things so I've been putting off getting one however this is a great deal. It's probably a good thing I live so far from town or I might be at Michael's picking one up!

Easter Carrots

Ok ladies remember these Hot Chocolate Bags and I told you you can make them for any holiday or party favors?

Well how about a cute little carrot for Easter. All you have to do is fill them with orange jelly beans,gumballs or M&M's.

Looking for something for the little guys who can't eat candy or just want something a little healthier? Fill them with Fish Crackers. I saw this cute idea on The Moody Fashionista's Blog.

What you need to make Carrots

1. Piping bags (1 per carrot)

2. Green Ribbon

3. What ever orange filling you want....jelly beans,gumballs,m&m's, crackers

Directions

Fill piping bags with jelly beans and tie the end with green ribbon.

These are Cute and Easy.....what could be better?

How about Chocolate Dipped Peeps

I can't remember where I saw these sorry if any one knows I would be happy to give that person the credit.

Since the rage this season seems to be everything taste better on a stick I'm going to add a sucker stick and put them in a vase for a center piece for the kids table on Easter Sunday.

Ingredients

Chocolate for melting

Easter Sprinkles

Directions

Melt chocolate in microwave or on top of store. Take your peeps and dip them in melted chocolate and roll in Easter Sprinkles

I've been busy getting stuff together to start making Easter goodies. I'm off to get groceries in the morning. Here is one of my favorite things to make for the grand kids. I've posted it before but thought it was worth posting again since it is so easy and they love them. directed. *This gift jar may be created to suit any holiday for which marshmallow candies are available. Easter S'moores INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS: 1. 1 1/4 cups of Easter M&M's 2. 8 marshmallow bunny peeps 3. 1 package of Graham Crackers 4.1/3 Cup Brown Sugar Spoon M&M's into jar first, then Peeps, then put combined brown sugar and graham cracker crumbs in baggie. I put a cute Easter napkin over lid before closing. Attach a gift tag with the following instructions: 1. Empty the jar contents into a bowl. Snip the bunnies into bits with kitchen sheers or cut up with a knife. Return the bunny bits to the mixture. Mix well. 2. Melt 1/2 cup butter; add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour this over the dry ingredients, mixing well. Pat into a greased 9" square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes. Cool and cut into bars. (Makes 9 to 12 bars.) *Option - leave bunnies whole; combine remaining ingredients and place the bunnies on top; then bake as directed.

Finally the snow is melting and I am done with my taxes whooooooooohooooow! Now it's time to play. I've been wanting to get started making some Easter crafts. I will post them as I get them done....I will also post some cute ideas I've been seeing around.

The animals have been out in full force lately..... I guess they are enjoying the nice weather too. The birds and squirrels have been fighting over the bird feeder. I wish I could get a picture of this crazy squirrel. He gets on the gate and jumps onto the window trying to reach the bird feeder. Of course he falls off every time.....you think he would learn after the second time Oh no he keeps trying and trying. This poor little guy isn't going to give up. I felt so bad for him since he kept falling and never did make it to get any food so I put some out for him. We have also had jackrabbits playing in the snow. I didn't get a picture of them play but here is a picture of one of them the other one took of as fast as he could.

Snow,Snow and MORE SNOW

Ok enough is enough it can quit snowing anytime now. It's been snowing since Sunday. Ok not continuously but off and on. I am so OVER WINTER!!!! Poor Mark has been shoveling snow for days now and can't get caught up....it's kind of like laundry and dishes no matter how many times you do them there is still more :-) Poor Guy!

Today snow is just now starting to stick so there is only about 2" so far and accumulating rapidly. We still have power,sporadic phone service and absolutely no CELL service....text come in once in awhile but we can't return them. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad. It sure has been peaceful with no TV,Radio or Phone.

So enough about our situation here on the hill have you seen the new Pantone Colors for this Fall.....well here they are.....aren't they gorgeous?

No Power for over 24 hours

There was no late night scrapping here on Sunday even though the girls where stuck here until late on Monday. We lost power at about 7 on Sunday and didn't get it back until Monday night after 8. Just as I was trying to fix dinner by candle lite.

It was very quite around here. You could hear the branches and trees falling. All day Sunday and Monday you heard snow blowers from sun up til sundown. The snow in the driveway was over 3' deep. On the patio it was up to the railing.

We lost two trees and I'm not sure how many branches but they are all over the yard.

We are suppose to be getting another STORM tonight. I'm not sure how much longer we will have power. There are still a lot of power lines done and we could lose more if the winds get as strong as they are predicting.

I'm trying to decided if I want to go to work with Mark and stay at a friends house or just be here in the storm by myself. I pretty sure he won't be making it home until probably Sat.....we are suppose to get snow the rest of the week. I don't mind being here if we have electricity but it's a little hard around here with none and I'm not sure I'll have enough firewood to last that long. I'm sending Mark to get more wood now.....I don't want to be without heat. I can live without everything else but I draw the line at being cold.

It's the first day of Spring and we are snowed in. Here is what it looked like at noon today

Here's what it looked like at 3 and it is still snowing. The trees are so heavy with snow the branches are breaking and we have one large pine tree that fell over. They say it's suppose to be like this for the next 7 days. I feel sorry for the girl's families that are stuck here. Don't you wish it was you ;-)

We woke up this morning with a light dusting of snow on the ground GRRRRR I'm so over winter. I was soooo hoping Spring had arrived to stay....we've been having such nice weather and there are a few sings of Spring starting to pop up around here.

I've been knee deep in taxes YUG but I almost have them done HOORAY. Hopefully this week I will get them finished and out of the way. It is always such a relief when I get them finished.

I have had sometime to scrapbook with the girls at the retreats the last couple of weekends so that has been a lot of fun.

How many of have tons of Glimmer Mist and really don't use it.....raise your hand. O ya my hand is up there with the rest of you :-D Anyhooo today when I was blog surfing I saw this really cute table scape for Spring and guess what they used....YEP Glimmer Mist. Rainbow Pudding

The snow is almost all gone YEEEEAAAAAA! as you probably can tell I'm not a big fan of snow. We have had way to much snow for me this year. I know it's not over but I'm always glad to see it disappear :-)

I've been working on some layouts for Saint Patrick's Day and Easter I will post them in a day or two. Until then here is something fun to try.

Another Storm

Boy this week flew by. We had a Retreat from Friday - Monday and the next Retreat started on Thursday and goes to Sunday so we have been non stop. Monday Mark started his vacation so Tuesday we went to Santa Clarita so I could get my birthday facial and massage :-) (thanks to my wonderful friend Shelly). If you live in Santa Clarita and feel like pampering yourself you need to visit RoseMary's Salon her and her husband are wonderful! Wednesday we went to Bakersfield and spent the day spoiling our grand daughter. She is growing way to fast. She already 15 months old.

We are suppose to get hit with another storm tonight. We've had snow flurries off and on all day....they are saying we are suppose to get 1-2" of snow tonight. I hope not! I am so over winter LOL. Just like last weekend the girls are hoping for snow. This group is really hoping they get snowed in. In fact they are the only group that has ever been snowed in so they are hoping for a repeat ;-)

I found this wonderful soup recipe (can't remember where. I really should write down where I find these recipes) if you looking for something easy and YUMMMMMMY to fix in this cold weather

Tortellini Soup
Yield: 3-4 servings
Ingredients:
1 tbsp. olive oil
½ cup onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic,
minced½ tsp. dried oregano
1 (15 oz.) can diced tomatoes, with juices
4 cups low-sodium vegetable broth (or chicken broth)
9 oz. tortellini, any variety (fresh or frozen)
3 cups fresh baby spinach, loosely packed Salt and pepper and Grated Parmesan, for serving
Directions:
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions to the pan and cook until beginning to soften, about 5 minutes. Add in the garlic and cook, stirring frequently, just until fragrant, about 1 minute. Mix in the oregano and diced tomatoes. Add the broth to the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil. Add the tortellini to the pot and cook according to the package directions. One minute before the tortellini is fully cooked, stir in the spinach. Remove from the heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm with grated Parmesan as desired.

I usually double this recipe it taste great the next day too! This really a must try recipe it's so easy and good! Let me know how you like it.

We woke to a light dusting of snow this morning. It's snowing lightly now and we are suppose to get 1-2' of snow today. I was so hoping the snow was gone for the year LOL A girl can dream can't she. Those of you driving up today please drive safely.

35 degrees out

It's 35 degrees out and I have to go shopping. This Sunny Southern California girl isn't looking forward to leaving this nice warm house to a cold car. We have a 4 day retreat this weekend so I have to go get groceries or I wouldn't be leaving LOL

The group that is coming this weekend wanted snow......well we are suppose to be getting up to 8" of snow this weekend. That should make them happy.....not me I'm ready for summer or at least spring.

I ordered pictures of my 3 year old grandson's first time in the snow. The kids where having so much fun sledding and making snow angels.

No time

I really thought I was going to have a lot more time to blog now that we have moved to the Retreat. Oh that is so far from the truth.....I am busier now then ever before. We have had back to back 4 day retreats so by the time I clean,do the laundry it's time to go to town to get groceries. OK I know going to get groceries doesn't sound like much but it is now an all day process. It's the one day a week I get to town so I have to make sure I get all my errands done on that day.

I haven't even had time to start my Valentine's Day crafts. I hope to have time to get them done this week since we are heading to Pismo Beach next weekend. Yea we need the break it's been non stop since Christmas and it will be non stop for another month when we get back.

Here are a couple of things I hope to get made this coming week. Aren't these suckers adorable. I found them over at Skip to My Lou. I only have large candy canes left so I hope they will turn out. I was to late to find the small candy canes.

I also want to try making Hot Chocolate on a spoon with home made marshmallows. I don't have a picture of them to share yet but if I get them made I will take pictures.

Heart in a Cupcake

I've been really busy lately so I haven't had time to post anything but I had to share these with you. I saw these adorable cupcakes over at Bake it in a Cake , Where you will find the directions on how to make them. They are supper easy. I can't wait to make these for my grandkids!

Banana Pecan Waffles

If you are looking for a Specail Breakfast for Valentine's Day (or anyday) these waffles are sooooooooooooo good.

Pecan Waffles with Roasted Pecan and Banana Syrup

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups flour
1/3 cup ground pecans
1/3 sugar
1 tablespoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoons salt
2 egg yolks
1 teaspoons vanilla
1 3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons melted butter
2 egg whites
1 cup pecan pieces
2 whole bananas, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch slices
2 1/2 cups maple syrup
Directions
In a mixing bowl combine flour, pecans, sugar, baking powder and salt. In another bowl beat the egg yolks and vanilla slightly. Beat the milk and 1/2 cup melted butter into the egg mixture. Fold the flour mixture into the egg mixture. Stir until combined yet still slightly lumpy. In a small bowl beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold beaten egg whites into batter, leaving little fluffs of egg whites. Pour 1 cup batter onto grids of a preheated, lightly greased waffle iron. Close lid quickly: do not open during baking. Bake according to the manufacturer's directions for the waffle iron.

In a saute pan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter. Add the pecan pieces and saute until golden, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add the banana slices and syrup and bring the liquid to a simmer

I saw the recipe on Emeril Lagasse. I made them this weekend for the girls at the retreat and they loved them.

I haven't had time to doing any crafting this week....it's a really sort week. My last retreat ended on Monday and the next one starts on Thursday so I've been busy trying to get ready. I hope to get some Valentine crafts done this next week. I hope you are having a great week.

Red Hot Valentine Popcorn

This is a favorite anytime of the year especially if you like cinnamon.

Red Hot Valentine Popcorn

Ingredients
2 cups popcorn, popped
9 oz bag Red Hots or Cinnamon Imperials
1/4 cup Karo syrup
1/2 cup Butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Directions:
Microwave candies, Karo, and butter 4 minutes on high, stirring after 2 minutes.
Add vanilla and baking soda and stir until light and foamy.
Pour syrup over popped popcorn in large brown paper bag. Microwave at 1 minute intervals, shaking after each minute, until corn is evenly coated.
Repeat several times.
Cool on cookie sheet.
Serves: 6
Preparation time: 20 minutes

Enjoy!

I can't believe the weather here.....last week we had snow on the ground and this week it's in the high 60's - low 70's. I'm loving the warmer weather. I was just telling my DH that it was about time for me to go stay in my old stomping grounds for a few days so I could get a break from the snow. Now I guess I will have to use the beach for an excuse to escape here for a few days. LOL

I thought it would be fun to share Valentine ideas with you so stop by from now until Valentine's Day to see all the ideas. I would also like to see any ideas you have. Here is one of my favorites.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner so I thought it would be fun to start sharing some Valentine ideas with you. I made this heart last year for a swap I was in. They are so much fun....I am going to make a couple this year for friends.

Here's a list of supplies
1 Heart Shaped Box I used an 8" box
Paint whatever color you want you heart to be
Lace
Bird
Flowers
or whatever you would like to decorate your box....anything can be used.

Step 1
Paint your box and let dry

Step 2
Decorate with whatever you like. I used a white bird I died pink (I used red food coloring to dye him) I printed the banner on my computer and cut it out.
The at is paper covered in glitter.

I hope you have fun making these. I love to use them for gift boxes This is my first time using Mr Linky's so I hope this works.

2011 Calendar

This has been a truly wonderful Holiday Season for us. All of our children and grand children came to visit at some point during the Holidays. The last of the family left yesterday.

We had plenty of snow for the kids to go sledding. They all had so much fun. It was my youngest grandson's first time to play in the snow. He tried so hard to keep up with the bigger kids from making snow angels to snowball fights or sledding he wanted in on the action.

We were even snowed in for day. My DH wasn't able to make it home from work.....luckily I had 2 of my grandson's here to keep me company. We played games and drank hot chocolate.

They even filmed a short film here of this past weekend so the grand kids that where over the weekend got to see how movies are made. Here is a sneak peak of them getting ready for a scene

Now that the Holidays are over and all the company's gone it's time to get back to work so I thought I would post our 2011 Calendar here for those of you who may not receive our newsletter.

Snowed In

I know I said I wouldn't be posting anything until next week however since we are snowed in I thought I would show you a couple of pictures. I know those of you back East are going to laugh when you see what it takes to bring Southern CA roads to a halt....just 8" of snow....yes I said 8" not feet! Ya I know go ahead and laugh.

In fact my DH couldn't even get home from work last night. He had to turn around and go back to our son's house to spend the night. Poor thing he never sleeps well when he isn't in his own bed so I am so glad he did make it home this afternoon. We were a little worried when I called for the road conditions and the person I talked to said the roads would be closed until Wednesday. They opened the I-5 around 12:30 this afternoon.

I have two of my grandson's here with me so luckily I had someone to keep me company lastnight while he was gone. We played cards and drank hot chocolate. They were so cute....when they woke up one of them asked "Grandma since we are snowed in does that mean we can't go outside and play in the snow?" They went out sledding for about an hour then decided it was to cold. LOL

White Christmas

It's finally starting to like Christmas around here. WHOOOOHOOOO :-)
We've had rain all week and it finally starting snowing a little while ago. We have 3" so far and it's still coming.

The kids start coming in tomorrow so it will really start feeling like Christmas around here. I just wish all the kids could be here it would be fun to have all our grandkids at once. This year we get to spend Christmas with two of our 4 sons and thier families. We will miss the rest of them.

Stuffing Recipe

Anyone cooking a turkey for Christmas?

Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that. When I found this recipe, I thought it as perfect for people like me,
who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

8 - 15 lb. turkey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good.)
1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT)
Salt/pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter
salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in
baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.

Listen for the popping sounds. When the turkey's butt blows the
oven door open and the bird flies across the room, it's done.

Sorry lady's but I couldn't resit. I hope you had a good laugh ;-)

Glitter Ornaments

Glitter Ornaments are very popular this year so I wanted to share with you how easy and inexpensive they are to make....all you need is

Clear Glass Ornament (I bought mine at Micheals)
Super FINE Glitter (I used Martha Stewart) I tried other types but SUPER FINE works the best
Liquid Hair Spray (I got mine at the dollar store)
Rhinestones
White Self Liner or color of your choice.

I embellished mine with rhinestones I found at Micheals. The names I cut out of with from dollar store white self liner using the cricut

I also made these cute little boxes from the cricut cartridge tags,bags,boxes and more to put them. If you make them be sure and use card stock weight paper. I used double sided so they were just as cute on the inside. I made them on a 12x12 mat. I used the largest setting I could and still stay within the cutting lines.

The little hat is for our newest grand daughter Eliana....isn't it adorable? I'm also making her a white one. Any ideas on what color to make the flower?

Peppermint Mint Fudge

It's been Cold and Rainy here and we have no snow yet. I'm hoping for a White Christmas so hopefully we will get some soon. Christams Eve would be good then I won't have to worry about the kids driving in the snow to get here. Then it can go away until 2012 LOL. Most of the our kids are coming here for the Holidays. We wish they could all make it but that doesn't look like it's going to happen this year.

I've been busy finishing up Christmas presents,holding retreats,still trying to get unpacked from the move and get Holiday Baking done.

Today I am making Chex mix and Candy. Here is my recipe for

Peppermint Mint Fudge

12 ounce package vanilla chips
16 ounce can vanilla frosting
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
8 drops red food coloring if desired
crushed peppermint candies or candy canes or a smattering of peppermint sprinkles

Line an 8-inch square pan with wax paper. Melt the vanilla chips in the microwave, stirring until smooth. Mix in the frosting and peppermint extract. Spread the creamy goodness into the prepared pan. Drip the food coloring over the fudge and swirl decoratively with a knife. Sprinkle with crushed candies and chill until set.
I promise you won't be able to stop eating this :-) it is so yummy

TOASTED CANDY BAR RICE CRISPY TREATS

Ingredients
12 Cups Rice Crispy cereal
2 10.5 oz bags mini marshmallows
6 Tablespoons butter
1 Cup chocolate chips
3 Cups mini marshmallows
10 mini Twix candy bars, chopped
10 mini Snicker candy bars, chopped

1. Prepare rice crispy treats according to directions on the cereal box, make sure to DOUBLE the recipe. Press into a buttered 9X13 inch baking dish.

2. Preheat oven’s broiler and position top rack in middle of oven NOT the top (if rack is to close to the broiler, the marshmallows will burn). Sprinkle chocolate chips over rice crispy treats. Sprinkle 3 Cups mini marshmallows over top. Broil just until marshmallows start to puff and turn golden brown.

3. Remove from oven and press chopped candy bars over toasted marshmallows. Let cool for at least 1 hour before serving. Hope you enjoy! It doesn't last long aroung here so before and get some before it is gone!

Hot Chocolate Cones

Another favorite are these cute stocking stuffer. They're great for the kiddo's both big and small! Who doesn't love hot chocolate!

Hot Chocolate Cones

Ingredients

Plastic Piping Bags, hot chocolate mix, chocolate chips or peppermint candies crushed, mini marshmallows, chocolate kiss

You need two bags per cone.

1. Add the drinking chocolate to one piping bag -- I put in about 4 table spoons. Tape or tie off the top of the bag with an elastic band and snip off the top of the plastic leaving about 1/2 inche of plastic above the tie.
2. Insert the drinking chocolate cone into your second plastic piping bag.Hold formally round the top so the chips don't fall down the side.
3. Add in chocolate chips (just as much as you think looks good).
4. Add mini marshmallows on top
5. Add a Chocolate on top of that. You could add a gumdrop, after dinner mint,crushed candy canes or peppermint candies ect. Then just tie it all of at the top with an elastic band.

6.Add ribbon, and tag and a little how to on the bag of the tag (snip of the end of the cone to empty the chocolate into a cup - add chocolate chips, milk and water. It's so so Easy, Hope you Enjoy!!!

These cones are also adorable filled with different size and colors of gumballs,jellybeans,skittles ect.

Christmas Stocking Tradition

Our stocking tradition started 32 years ago when I made these felt stocking for my boys.

Since then I have made over 20 more. Here are a couple of the others

My daughter-in-law Jessica is the one who started this. She wanted me to make one for her and then everyone wanted one. LOL I now try to have one done for each child on their first Christmas. After many years and stockings later we now have walls covered in felt stocking. The stockings all stay at our home. One of the first thing the kids do when they get for here for Christmas is look to see where their Stocking is hung. Even if they can't read they know which stocking is theirs :-)

Swedish Cream Waffers

This has to be my all time favorite cookie recipe. I don't think I am the only one in my house either....they are gone before I can even get them frosted!

Swedish Cream Wafers
makes: 5 dozen

1 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
granulated sugar
Combine the butter and whipping cream.
Add the flour.
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375F.
On a floured board, roll out 1/3 of the dough at a time to 1/8 inch thick.
Cut with 1-1/2 inch round cookie cutter.
Place lots of granulated sugar in a shallow bowl.
Coat cookies with the sugar on both sides.
Place rounds on ungreased baking sheets.
Prick each round with a fork about 4 times.
Bake 7 to 9 minutes.
Let cookies cool.

filling
1/4 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 egg yolk, optional
1 teaspoon vanilla
food coloring, optional Make the filling by beating 1/4 cup butter, powdered sugar, egg yolk and vanilla together.
Tint with food coloring, if desired. I use red and green for Christmas and add peppermint instead of vanilla

When cookies have cooled make sandwiches by placing some filling between two cookies.

Kicked up Paper Christmas Tree

Do you remember making Christmas Tress out of Reader Digest or some other old magazine? I saw these on someones blog and I am so sorry I don't remember who's. If anyone knows please let me know so I can give them the credit they are do.

Anywhoo....Aren't they gorgeous? Click on picture to enlarge. Guess what I will be doing today....Yep. I already have my magazines ready so while I'm watching the News I will be folding my magazines. My DH brought me home spray paint last night so I'm ready to go :-)

For those of you who have never made these they are very simple. Take your magazine and break the spine now take the top of the first page and fold it into the spine then fold the bottom of the page up into the spine. See how it resembles a tree. Continue until all the pages are folded, decorate as desired. This is a great project for the KIDS!

Here is a favorite breakfast recipe. I don't remember where I got this recipe but I've been making it for years now. It is one of my husbands favorites it's also a great recipe for Christmas morning since it can be made the night before and popped into the oven to cook while the kids are opening their presents. ENJOY!

Banana Stuffed French Toast
8 slices of texas toast
3 bananas
4 eggs
1 small can evaporated milk
1 tbl vanilla

Tear toast and put in bottom of 12x9 pan. Mash bananas add milk eggs and vanilla pour over bread and soak overnight.

Streusel Topping
1/4 cup butter melted
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup pecans chopped

mix together and pour over bread mixture just before baking. Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes. Serve with powdered sugar or syrup

Unpacking

We finally got all moved....now if we just get unpacked. I don't have to many boxes to unpack but finding somewhere to put this stuff is another question. We really didn't need to bring anything to this house, but you know I couldn't get rid of my crafting supplies. I do think I am going to have to get rid of some of it though or maybe I just need to have fewer hobbies LOL! Moving is definitely no fun in my book.

Look who woke me this AM

Do you see him in the top of the tree? This city girl now country girl woke up to a woodpecker pecking on her house. I couldn't figure out who was knocking on my bedroom door until I opened the door and saw the woodpecker fly off. What a relief I surely didn't want someone to see me with my PJ's on and my hair uncombed. LOL I don't think I like being woke up at the break of dawn thinking someone is at my bedroom door only to findout it was a bird. Of course he flew away when I opened the door he probably went to take a nap ;-) Anyone know how to get rid of this little pesky bird without hurting him? I definitely don't want him waking me every morning or pecking at my house.

Knee deep in boxes

For the past month we have been packing to move. I am so tired of seeing boxing. I have been in this house for over 25 years. YIKES there is so much stuff to get rid of. It's amazing....every time I think I'm done packing I find more stuff LOL! We have our stuff,my parents, our kids and now some of my mother-in law's and our nieces stuff also. Oh Calgone please take me away ;-)

I have to get back to the boxes. A huge Thanks to our wonderful son and friends who have stopped by to help. I don't think we would have made it this far without you!

Whooohoow it's Fall. I love this time of year. The leaves are starting to turn and the night air is cool and crisp. It makes me want to be in the kitchen cooking all day.I love the smell of fall....Cinnamon,Pumpkin,Apples,Carmel and Hot Spiced Cider YUMMMM does it get any better!

I'm making cinnamon rolls tomorrow morning for breakfast. I found a recipe on Pioneer Women that sounds Delicious. I can't wait to try it. Want to stop by for some hot cinnamon rolls and coffee?

Cricut Imagine

How many of you watched the launch of the Cricut Imagine last night on HSN? I have to say I was one of those people. I couldn't help myself ;-) I was glued to the TV for hours!

I picked up the phone several times to order it then stopped myself. There is a part of me that wants it and a part of me that keeps saying wait. I'm very picky when it comes to printed material so I decided I needed to wait until I could actually see it in person. I need to check out the quality of the printed material. I will say however it looked great on TV.

I couldn't believe what all it can do....not to mention you can still use your old cartridges. I was really impressed by this new machine. If the quality of the printing is what they say and it is a cheep to print as what they were advertising I know what Santa will be bringing me for Christmas if I can wait that long LOL!

I just don't know where they are getting 12x12 paper for a nickel a piece....even if it is only white. I want in on that deal!

Let me know....did you order one. If so can I come play ;-)

It's been crazy busy around here this week and I leave for the retreat tomorrow. We have a 4 day weekend. It should be a lot of fun. Hope you have a fantastic week.

Remembering 9/11

Where were you?

Do you remember where you where on this day? It's a day many of us will never forget. I remember waking up thinking it was all a bad dream only to realize it was all to real. I spent the whole day in front of the TV in total shock.

I just wanted to to take a moment and say thank you to all those people who gave their lives for us that day and to those of you who had to go on without your loved ones, and to the many brave men and women who went there to help. I can't even begin to imagine what you went through I just know for this American I will always be grateful. Thank you and God Bless

Apple Dumplings

As some of you know Mark's Dad passed away a couple of months ago. Since then we have been packing up the house and getting his Mom ready to move to St. Louis. It's been a really hard month around.....but things are finally getting back to somewhat normal around here.

I've started new project yesterday that I am so excited about. Mark's Mom gave us a dress and I decided to refinish it. I found a night stand at one of the thrift stores when my girlfriend and I were out junkin on Sat. I just can't make up my mind what color I want to do it in. I have the one dress and one night stand sanded now I have two more night stands and a dress to sand. I want to put a broken china mosaics, a.k.a. Pique Assiette top on them. I have never done either one before so it will be interesting to see how they turn out. I am my worst critic so I'm hoping I like them when I get done LOL. I have been wanting to try the mosaic top for a few years now. They are so beautiful!

Today I tried a new recipe from Pioneer Women....it was sooooo yummmie.

Apple Dumplings

2 Granny Smith apples
2 sticks Butter
1 1/2 cups Sugar
1 t Vanilla
Cinnamon
2 cans Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
a 12oz can of Mountain Dew.

Start by peeling and coring 2 Granny Smith apples. It doesn't matter if they’re a little bruised and battered. My boys used these to play racquetball earlier that day, and they worked just fine. Next, cut the apples into eight slices.

Butter a 9 x 13 inch baking pan. open the can of crescent rolls and unroll the dough, roll up an apple slice in each of the crescent rolls.Now lay each one into the buttered baking pan.

Sauce
Now, melt 2 sticks regular (salted) butter in a saucepan. Dump in 1 1/2 cups sugar…

And here’s the kicker: just barely stir together. Also add in 1 teaspoon vanilla…

And barely stir. You definitely want the mixture lumpy and grainy.

Now pour the mixture over the top of the dumplings, making sure to thoroughly coat them. Now, the recipe calls for a 12-ounce can of Mountain Dew, pour Mountain Dew all around the edge of the pan. (I used the whole can I would suggest trying half a can it was very syrupy)

NOW. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes, watching to make sure they don’t get too brown. (You’ll definitely want them golden brown and crispy on top, though.)

Serve it with vanilla ice cream (cinnamon ice cream would be perfect, too), and don’t be afraid to top the whole thing with some of the sweet sauce from the bottom of the pan.

My son was here when they came out of the oven and I wasn't sure there was going to be any left for when Mark got home ;-)

Been super busy. My Mother-in-law is moving out of state so we've been trying to help her. Mark spent all day over there yesterday helping them with their moving sale. Still a lot to do before them moving van comes. Does anyone have a fairy wand or fairy dust they could use to help us. LOL

We have out of state company coming this month. I'm so excited I haven't seen them in over a year. Not sure how long they will stay but it will be great having them.

I'm sorry I don't remember where I found this but thought it was a really quick and simple gift to make for anyone who likes to read.

Materials:

•2 feet of Waxed Linen Cord
•1 Charm
•Assorted Beads – about a dozen with holes that just fit over the linen
•Clear Nail Polish
•Scissors
Steps:

1.Tie the charm onto one end of the cord, trim and set knot with clear nail polish.

2.Slide a grouping of beads onto the cord and tie a knot after the last bead. (Use an awl to get the knot close to beads if needed).

3.Determine the length of cord needed for the type of book (less for paperback more for hardcover) and tie a knot were the beads will start.

4.Add beads to the tail of the cord and tie a knot after the last bead.

5.Trim the excess cord and set knot with clear nail polish.

Cricut Imagine Machine.m4v cartridge prices

There is some concern about the price of the cartridges for the new Cricut Imagine Machine.m4v. Here's what I've heard the image cartridges will be the same price as regular cartridges around $89 and the ink cartridges will be around $39. The price to print isn't suppose to be anymore than with would cost if you where buying it already made. I think this sounds amazing....just imagine no more trying to match the colors for your papers and embellishments all you have to do is select whatever color you want and print away. OH I'm thinking I really need this machine. I've already started hinting to the DH. It's available on HSN Sept. 14. Any bets on if he'll get for me LOL
